Vertical axis turbine
Less used type of wind turbine with vertical axis anchored to the ground. There are many types, e.g. Darrieus, Savonius, Giromill etc. They consist of several airfoils which form a parabolic, spherical or cylindrical shape when rotating. It does not need to rotate along the direction of the wind, which simplifies its construction. Thanks to the vertical axis, the gearbox and generator are placed on the ground, which makes maintenance easier.
