Since the beginning of civilization, water has played an important part in human development. Its cycle is one of the basic prerequisites for life. The cycle is driven by energy from the Sun and by gravity. Water from precipitation has potential energy, especially in mountainous regions, part of which can be harnessed during the water’s journey back to the oceans, for example to generate electricity.
