Niobium-titanium, NbTi
An alloy of niobium and titanium that has superconducting properties at temperatures around 4 kelvin and magnetic fields below 10 tesla. It was discovered in 1962 and is used to make superconducting electromagnets, e.g. for tokamaks. Niobium-titanium is easy to work with and affordable. However, it loses its superconducting properties in strong magnetic fields, where it is more appropriate to use, for example, a niobium-tin superconductor.
