Ion temperature

The average kinetic energy of the free ions, corresponding to their temperature. It is given in electron volts (1 electronVolt = 11,600 kelvin). The ion temperature in a plasma can be up to several orders of magnitude lower than the electron temperature because the ions are much heavier than electrons and heat up more slowly.
