D
D-T fusion
Thermonuclear fusion reaction between two isotopes of hydrogen, deuterium and tritium. The ignition temperature of this reaction is 160,000,000 kelvin. The fusion of the deuterium and tritium nuclei produces a helium atom nucleus, a neutron, and releases an energy of 17.53 MeV. The possibilities of igniting this reaction are being intensively studied because it has a relatively low ignition temperature, a large cross section and a sufficient yield to be used as an energy source in a thermonuclear fusion power plant.
