Instrument for measuring wind speed. The cup anemometer consists of bowl-shaped blades and a device that measures their rotation speed. A vane anemometer has an axis of rotation parallel to the direction of wind flow and resembles a small turbine. A wind vane is often installed along with the anemometer to determine the wind direction. The anemometer is a common piece of equipment in weather stations and wind farms.
